How to read produce stickers
This is in this month's Vegetarian Times magazine, credited to the Produce Marketing Association. I thought more parents might be interested in knowing how to read the PLU (price look-up code) on fresh produce from your grocery store.
Genetically modified produce is coded with 5 digits, beginning with 8.
Organically grown produce has 5 digits, beginning with 9.
Conventionally grown produce has 4 digits.
I'm afraid to look at the apples I just bought. . . .
